According to a new benchmark report released by the Security Leadership Research Institute, the average security budget as a percentage of an organization's total revenue is 0.07%. The report, which was officially released last week, also included findings on budgets, workforces, program structure, and responsibilities of security leaders across a range of organization types.
The SEC's executive V.P. and chief knowledge strategist, Kathleen Kotwica said "the benchmark currently provides a snapshot of the entire industry but is said to look at individual sectors as more individuals take time to fill out the survey." The data so far has only been drawn from 183 survey respondents.
Additional statistics included in the report findings:
- Average security budget reported was $8 Million
- Average security budget per organization employee $249
- On average, respondents reported one security employee for every 99 total employees
- 43 percent of organizations report either no risk oversight group exists or that security is not represented in the risk oversight group
